I drink spirits, take cruddy pictures, and post tasting notes. My brain is decreasingly able to keep track of all the things I drink (this has nothing to do with the drinking, I assure you), so this blog will act as a sort of brain prosthesis, allowing me to go back and relive all of the glorious boozy moments I’ve had. While I am an adventurous, ombibulous drinker, this site is focused on cask strength spirits.
Rating Rubric
This is mostly borrowed from lawhiskeysociety.com but with my own spin. Over the years, I have become pretty adept at guessing what I will enjoy, so many of my ratings will be in the A or B range. Taste is paramount and can make up for poor smells. Ratings are assigned without considering value.
A+ Top handful of spirits I have ever tasted or imagine I ever will taste
A Nearly an ideal spirit with only very minor perceived “flaws”
A- Very good, top 10-15% of spirits I have tried
B+ Very good
B Solid, would want to drink regularly
B- A fair offering, but wouldn’t reach for it regularly
C Decent but unexceptional, not interesting, or not distinct enough to drink
D Very unpleasant. Avoid.
F Extremely unpleasant. Avoid. This shouldn’t be on the market.
